Everything you ever wanted to know about lil' ole me.

Yes, I really do look like this in real life.

Hello all! First and foremost, welcome to my site. Well, where to begin? My name is Desireé Rincón, and, what can I say, I'm an aspiring artist. I'm originally from the Dominican Republic, but moved to the States when I was 8 years old. After high school, I did some active service time in the U.S. Army (what compelled me to join the military, I have no idea...), and afterwards moved down to the Dominican Republic to live with my family. I spent a year working as a schoolteacher down there, as well as attending college; I moved back to the States late last year, to start my life anew. Needless to say, I've picked up quite a bit of life experience along the way, which makes me adaptable to any situation that comes my way (amazingly enough, I'm actually remotely intelligent, and somewhat educated!). I still serve Uncle Sam proudly through the Army National Guard, and am active in a lot of community-oriented organizations, such as volunteering at local shelters and participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program.

I'm currently in college for two majors: Information Technology (because I'm a computer geek like that), and Art Studio—none of the nearby universities apparently offer a Graphic Design major, so I decided to get the best of both worlds. As much as I love computers and my trusty Adobe Photoshop (which I use for EVERYTHING), I have always had a fondness for the traditional arts in my heart, and my favorite all-time medium is (and definitely will always be) pencils; There is something about black, white and graytones that can always speak volumes, where colors sometimes cannot, despite their endless hues and tonalities.

As far as themes to my artwork go, I've always had a keen interest in human anatomy—the possibilities are endless when it comes to drawing motion, balance, and the sheer intricacies of our bodies. I'm also a big comic book dork, and usually end up spending quite a lot of time doodling superheroes and heroines, as well as drawing out sequential art. When I don't feel like drawing superheroes and villains, I tend to enjoy depicting fantasy in my artwork (and, of course, putting on paper everything I wish I was in real life). As I continue to build up my portfolio, I'll definitely be posting a lot more of all of these types of artwork.

After college, who knows where I'm going to take life—I tend to just go wherever life takes me, and enjoy it for the experiences I pick up along the way; after all, they serve as great stories to tell my future grandkids... provided God lets me live to see those days. I definitely see myself in some field of work where I will be able to express myself creatively in some way, shape, or form, preferably through my visual artwork. In truth, to not be able to do so would probably kill me softly.

In any case, I have been drawing for as long as I can possibly remember. It is my first and one true love. I can't recall when exactly I decided to opt for turning what is my hobby and my passion into my career, though I've somehow always known that I would eventually end up heading in this direction with my life. This site is my first step towards hopefully reaching that goal.

There's more to me than just a silly website, you know...

If you really feel the need to get to know me better as an individual and know the more human aspect of me (read: if you're bored out of your mind and have nothing better to do) feel free to check out my profile in MySpace by clicking on my handy-dandy little logo link here. I keep a running blog there, as well, so feel free to check that out. *A word of caution about my blog: I use that particular service on MySpace to vent once in a while, and vent I do. My venting, however, might not be suitable for minors; so if you are under 15, you need not be clicking on my link, for I really don't want to be responsible for poor, innocent young kids burning their retinas due to my foul, vile, filthy unsuitable-for-young'uns language. (Okay, it's not really all that bad—I try to maintain the tone relatively decent, for the most part —but I really don't feel like dealing with any potential lawsuits; besides, even though I'm relatively open to other people's viewpoints and respectful of their opinions, I don't expect that everyone else is the same way.)

For the really curious, a link to my Photobucket album is provided as well, so you can confirm that I'm pretty normal looking... for the most part, anyway.
